For the most comprehensive level of eyecare and eyewear in the region, the doctors and staff at Chesterland Family Eyecare and Chardon Family Eyecare have amassed all the latest screening and diagnostic equipment to prevent, detect and treat eye conditions, as well as offer fashion-forward prescription eyewear.
A Geauga County native, Dr. Bianca Kostranchuk took over the private practices several years ago because she wanted to be able to foster a caring community culture with an emphasis on scientific advances. She says it was important to be able to make her own decisions on things such as which equipment to bring in and how long her appointments should last.
An Eye on Systemic Health Along with associates Dr. Taylor Wrubel and Dr. Edwin Grant, and a staff of 15 technicians and administrative people, Dr. Kostranchuk explains that their primary goal is to ensure patients’ overall systemic health.
To that end, they offer their patients an Optomap retinal exam, an advanced diagnostic digital image of the retina that can capture an 82% view of your retina at one time, allowing the doctors to detect any problems more quickly and easily.
“Early detection is essential, as many serious conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can be initially diagnosed in the eyes,” she says. “With the Optomap, we’re able to take an ultra-wide field image of the inside of the eye in a fraction of a second, without needing to dilate eyes with drops. And we can save the images so we can compare them from year to year.”
If a disease or condition is detected, she says they are capable of treating almost anything—from dry eye to glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts, diabetic and pediatric eyecare—with all the methods at their disposal, just shy of surgery.
When it comes to Lasik, they partner with affiliated surgeons in Cleveland, and patients can conveniently have their consultation and pretesting done before the procedure and follow-up appointments afterward.
Addressing Eye Strain and Dry Eye With people spending more time on their screens, Dr. Kostranchuk says they have been seeing a significant uptick in eye strain and fatigue, especially in kids.
Parents should be on the lookout for red flags such as frequent headaches or rubbing of the eyes or difficulty maintaining attention.
Dry eye is another common condition exacerbated by screen time, in addition to environmental factors such as aging and certain medications. She says that with their arsenal of treatments, from over-the- counter or prescribed eye drops to eyelid treatments and other in-office therapies, no one should have to suffer from the burning, irritation, redness and blurry vision caused by dry eye.
Fabulous Eyewear Collections From basic, cost-effective prescription eyewear lines to designer styles, the practices showcase an impressive number of eyewear lines to appeal to every taste and budget while best complementing your face shape, features and skin and hair tones. They are an exclusive retailer of FEB31st eyewear, a design-your-own line custom made in Italy that allows patients to totally personalize the colors, accents and materials of their frames to fit their own unique style.
